I don’t think I’d ever been so confronted up until that time, and even as I write, just the thought of such sadness still makes my tummy turn.

As I think about what happened next however, again the same feelings flow, but this time feelings of amazement, awe, gratitude, significance, love. I guess that’s what I feel every time God speaks to me like He did back then, but seriously, can you imagine what it would be like to be in the midst of such sorrow and have the words, ”Psalms 34:18″ come into your head. Okay, so I didn’t know what Psalms 34:18 said at the time either :) but when I opened my Bible and found, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those crushed in spirit,” my pain was somehow muted. I instantly had hope.

This is the kind of comfort Peta Hay will be speaking about during her sermon at Chatswood Church tomorrow. The kind of comfort that Isaiah 61:3 talks about – a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair! If you can’t be with us tomorrow in person, love to see you back here when the video goes up in a week or two. Until then, “Blessed are they that mourn, for they will be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4)

All about life campaign and we are seriously excited about this. What follows is the heads up on some of the things we will be doing during this campaign so others can learn of and experience the abundant life that Jesus promised.

JAAL Sermon Series – Sat, 11.00am-12.15pm
Want to know what Jesus was all about? Check out Luke 4:18-19,” The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has annointed me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sigh for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.” To help break this down we have created a six part sermon series:

Not sure if Jesus was the Creator of Life? Come listen to Dr John Hartnett from Creation Ministries International and consider the evidence for Creation and evolution. Lunch will be provided.

Kids’ Club (0-5 year olds) – Wed, Oct 7- Fri, Oct 9, 9.30am-11.00am; Sat, Oct 10, 9.30am-10.40am

Who is Jesus? – Wed or Thu, 7.30pm-9.00pm
Credible historians, scholars and experts – atheists and Christians alike – all believe Jesus existed so the question is not, “Did Jesus exist?” but “Who is Jesus?” This six part DVD/small group series will introduce us to Bruce Marchiano (Oct 14 or 15), the actor who played the role of Jesus in the Matthew series, and then unpack what Jesus had to say about:

Healing from sickness and death – Oct 21 or 22
How should we treat each other – Oct 28 or 29
Worry-free living – Nov 11 or 12
Fear of the future – Nov 18 or 19
God’s Kingdom – Nov 25 or 26

Parenting Course (0-5 year olds) – Sat, 9.30am-10.40am
Keen to learn some Christian tips for parenting? This is an eight week Focus on the Family course that will start on Oct 17 and finish on Dec 5. Cost $20pp or $35 per couple.

Simply Christianity – Sat, 9.30am-10.40am
Interested in learning about Jesus but not sure where to start? This is the stripped back version of Christianity. The real Jesus as He is presented by the New Testament author Luke:

This year our annual Christmas Service will be a celebration of Jesus. All about life! A scrummy vegetarian Christmas Lunch will be provided.
